Controversial

Ecclesiastes 6:11

11The more the words, the less the   meaning, and how does that profit   anyone?

A hearing has found rugby union player Israel Folau committed a “high-level breach” of the Professional Players’ Code of Conduct over controversial social media posts. He proclaimed on his social media account that hell awaits drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, liars, fornicators, thieves, atheists and idolaters. After being issued with a conduct breach notice, which recommended his four-year contract worth $4 million be terminated, Folau launched a challenge, resulting in the hearing. Rugby Australia had previously reprimanded Folau for targeting the LGBTQI community in his social media posts, warning him that it was against the values the sport’s governing body stood for and telling him to cease. Folau has been backed by his church, other rugby players and his father. A decision has not yet been made on how he will be punished.

Social Media is loud speaker to multitudes. Speaking against wickedness awakes oppositions. The mockers can never appreciate rebuke. It warns in Proverbs 9:8-10, 8Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you; rebuke the wise and they will love you. 9Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning. 10The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Christ’s disciples should be more concerned about making disciples than presenting one’s self to be more upright than others. Using God’s word to rebuke the wicked with no empowerment of Christ’s Spirit is stepping into spiritual battle without proper spiritual battle gears or armor. If you care and wish others to have faith in Christ, pray earnestly that His grace works in their life. Truly, Christ instructed us to witness for Him but first and foremost, we need empowerment of His Spirit (Acts 1:8). He will teach us who, where, when and how to testify about Him more effectively.

Lord Jesus, fill and empower me with Your Holy Spirit.
