Ecclesiastes 8:2

2Obey the king’s command, I say, because you took an oath before God.

It is not a very easy task to obey, especially, when a ruler is oppressive to his people. Direct associates who receive personal benefits from the ruler should know that to diligently obey a command could possibly increase their welfare. Ordinary citizens may willingly obey their ruler if they know they would benefit from their obedience otherwise they would find ways to legally disregard orders or worse, violently fight for their rights.

When Queen Vashti disobeyed King Xerxes, she may have regretted the undesirable consequence of her disobedience to the king. The king’s advisers said in Esther 1:19, 19Let it be written in the laws of Persia and Media, which cannot be repealed, that Vashti is never again to enter the presence of King Xerxes. Also let the king give her royal position to someone else who is better than she.

Subsequently, Esther replaced Vashti as queen. If a decree of a king cannot be repealed, the decree of the King of kings is eternal. We are servants if Christ the King of kings. Obedience to His commands is beneficial. Christ the King of kings has been given all authorities in heaven and on earth. Christ is the Lord who decreed in Deuteronomy 28:2-8, All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God: You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out. The Lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven. The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to.

Lord Jesus, empower me to obey You diligently!
