Ecclesiastes 3:22

22So I saw that there is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work, because that is their lot.

The billionaire Warren Buffett advised: “It’s better to hang out with people better than you. Pick out associates whose behavior is better than yours and you’ll drift in that direction. Hang out with people that have integrity, intelligence, and energy. Hang out with intentionally focused people that know when to say ‘no.’ Master the art and practice of setting boundaries for self. Hang out with people that feed their minds by reading.” Buffett estimates that he spends 80 percent of his working day thinking and reading 500 pages of his interest. “Hang out with people that are legitimately loved by others. When you get to my age, you’ll really measure your success in life by how many of the people you want to have love you actually do love you. I know people who have a lot of money … but the truth is that nobody in the world loves them … that’s the ultimate test of how you have lived your life,” he added.

When Buffett said that he reads 500 pages of his interest, it implies his enthusiasm for his work and secret of his success. When King Solomon’s advised, “There’s nothing better than to enjoy your work,” he actually prescribes a secret of successful career. Keep searching for a career you could enjoy. To measure love of your job: Check your enthusiasm when it’s time to go to work. “Enthusiasm” comes from Greek word enthousiasmos which means “possessed by God.” When Christ’s Spirit bears fruit of love in you, you are possessed by God, and you’ve got enthusiasm going to work. When you love your job, it follows doing what’s right.

It says in Psalm 34:15-16, 15The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry; 16but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to blot out their name from the earth. Seek to be filled and empowered by Christ’s Spirit for you to enjoy your work. And, God answers your prayers when you seek His help.

Lord Jesus, fill me with enthusiasm to do what’s right.
