Five is Enough

Ecclesiastes 3:4

4a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.

An Asian TV series, “Five is enough,” features a divorcée with 3 kids and widower with 2 kids. (Divorcée is divorced woman; Divorcé is a divorced man). The divorcée always practices her smile in front of a mirror to hide her struggles raising her 3 kids. The widower always uses positive words and always smiling before his children and extended family to hide his loneliness. The show made them employed in the same office. Eventually, they came to like each other and get married. Relatives oppose their plan to live together and presume probable problems that may arise among their respective children. Privately, the couple agreed to strive hard and make their relationship works. They are happy to be with each other, and decided not to live a life of loneliness anymore despite the perceived difficulties in life.

There is time for everything, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance. God had scheduled right timing for everything to happen according to His wonderful design. Jesus said in John 7:6, 6My time is not yet here; for you any time will do. The Lord knows that there’s proper time for everything because He authored them. While we desire to be happy and celebrate at all times, God allows sorrow and weeping episodes in our life.

Someone said that life offers us more lonely experiences than happiness. Such perspective from human standpoint is not totally misconception. We’ve got to accept that struggles and failures will find us one day and cause us to be lonely. The Lord our Creator knows it, and offered us eternal life. We can experience life in eternity partially while we live on earth. Really!

The presence of the Spirit of Christ in our life does not only assure us of our salvation but also gives us partial taste of life in eternity. Revelation 21:4 says, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain.” In the midst of life difficulties, the Holy Spirit brings joy and peace in our life when we allow Christ to perform His Lordship over us.

Lord Jesus, please help me submit to Your Lordship at all cost.
