Ecclesiastes 8:11

11When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, people’s hearts are filled with schemes to do wrong.

Impeachment is calling to account or bringing an accusation of misconduct in office against a public official before an appropriate tribunal.

The US Constitution gives the House of Representatives the sole power to impeach an official, and it makes the Senate the sole court for impeachment trials. The power of impeachment is limited to removal from office but also provides for a removed officer to be disqualified from holding future office. Fines and potential jail time for crimes committed while in office are left to civil courts.

Will the US president be removed or acquitted? Impeachment has polarized observers. While it’s interesting to know the results of the impeachment, what does it benefit us if we just forget everything after all? Impeachment news should serve as valuable lesson that would spark direct or indirect participation with the government, instead of just being passive observer in politics. Directly, we should be prayerful when electing officials. Indirectly, we should pray that whoever God allows to be elected would bring glory to His name.

It says in 1 Timothy 2:1-4, 1 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

We may agree with them or not, the Lord has great purposes for government officials. Pray for legislators to design laws favorable to us. Pray for law implementers to be honest and have courage to carry out their duties and responsibilities efficiently. Additionally, government officials and all authorities need the Lord also.

Lord Jesus, help me keep praying for authorities.
