Ecclesiastes 8:12

¹² Although a wicked person who commits a hundred crimes may live a long time, I know that it will go better with those who fear God, who are reverent before him.

Somewhere around the globe, a number of people are killed in an earthquake, died of a mysterious virus or suffering from the eruption of volcano. Except for relatives and friends, observers may not be very much concerned. But when Kobe suddenly died at the age of 41, the basketball world was devastated. It has become headlines for many if not all newspapers outlets. An emotional reaction to death of love ones practically exemplified the reality and effect of death to mankind. It is very saddening to hear when most appreciated and respected individuals die. We can’t control our lifespan. We are reminded of what is written in Hebrews 9:27-28, ²⁷ Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, ²⁸ so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

God created mankind on earth for a purpose. Until we have accomplished the special purpose that our Creator has designed for us, He allows us to keep on living. One may say, “Should I keep disobeying the Lord so that I will keep on living?” Hopefully Christ returns in our generation, but some may not die even before that event, yet it is for certain that the Judgment Day will be terrible for those who are not secured of their eternal life in Christ. It says in Hebrews 3:18-19, ¹⁸ And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? ¹⁹ So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.

Intentional disobedience to God’s instructions practically signifies unbelief. Unbelief is resistance to the Spirit of the Lord, and it is an unforgivable sin. Would you rather insist on unsecured and uncertain life of disobedience or enjoy the adventure of obedience to the Lord with secure eternal life? Faith in Christ produces joy and peace in the believer’s life.

Lord Jesus, inspire me to obey You enthusiastically.
