Lifespan

Ecclesiastes 8:8a

8As no one has power over the wind to contain it, so no one has power over the time of their death.

On Christmas Eve, a father and his two children died in a swimming pool accident. The father’s media account describes him as a “Pioneer, Life coach, Entrepreneur, Student, Property Manager, Businessman & PAL Leader.” The incident occurred after the girl got into difficulties in the water, and her brother and father tried to rescue her. A family member testified before Civil Guard police that the three were unable to swim. Post-mortem results released by police found all three died by drowning, and the examiner found that none of the three had bruises or signs of intoxication. Neighbours of the family reacted with sadness, “They were very religious, very friendly, very humble. They are so nice, that is why everybody is shocked.”

Believers of Christ or potential believers would acknowledge what can control their lifespan. As we look forward to the coming New Year, how should we approach life that may benefits us practically and spiritually? Not a few people are very busy doing what could be very important in their lives. Others enjoy their material abundance in possible ways they may think or consider as proper and pleasant to them. Still individuals wonder about different concerns of life: economy, climate, politics or spiritual pilgrimage. Each one has personal uniqueness when choosing essentialities of life to prioritize. Jesus declared the greatest commandment in Matthew 22:37, 37Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

To discover joy of obeying the greatest commandment of God uncovers the secret of life to its fullness that He promised to all believers. We’ve got to think, desire and do things out of love for the Lord. So, be empowered by the Spirit of Christ to enjoy life to its fullness. Obedience to Christ with joyfulness is the greatest life that God has designed for all mankind.

Lord Jesus, empower me to obey You completely.
