Richest Man

 Ecclesiastes 5:11

11As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owners except to feast their eyes on them?

From a small shoe store, Henry Sy Sr. was the richest man in the Philippines with net worth of $20 billion. His recipe for success: 1. Set a long-term vision: Always look at what can be in five years. 2. Think big, start small, move fast: Organizations with committees take time deliberating. Before they know it, somebody already got the business. 3. Work hard: The first generation Chinese family-owned corporation is usually the fastest growing while growth typically plateaus during the second generation and collapses during the third generation. 4. Think outside the box: Harvard theory may not always be the best theory. You’ve got to find better ways than Harvard formula. 5. Be ambitious: Go for the large scale, be willing to be bold. Sy officially joined the big leagues when he built those massive one-stop SM shopping malls. 6. Be customer-focused: Customers can shop, eat, renew driver’s license, have a haircut, see the doctor, have a massage, learn ice skating, etc., at SM shopping malls. 7. Seek market leadership: Target to be the market leader of that business. If you don’t know that industry, don’t go into that industry. 8. Set good governance: Good governance is good for business. Paying the right taxes is good for business.

Those principles for material success are beneficial to business-minded people. To have much money, popularity and power are beneficial for earthly life. Material sufficiency is better than scarcity yet no material abundance is enough to satisfy human cravings. There’s no amount of money that can satisfy human thirst for material things. It says in Proverbs 27:20, 20Death and Destruction are never satisfied, and neither are human eyes. A person’s material success is enviable but we can only find true contentment Christ, the author of life. He exemplified that not having much cannot stop Him to have satisfied life on earth. Jesus said in Luke 9:58, 58 “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

Lord Jesus, help me be satisfied with my life in You.
