Why Me?

*Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

1There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the   heavens: 2a time to be born and a   time to die.

A very nice fellow was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and doctors have given him very little percent chance to survive. Everyone in the family was devastated. The patient silently ask, “Why me?” Most, if not all, people would love to have nice individuals to be around a little bit longer. So, “Do good citizens deserve to live longer and bad ones don’t?” It is our preference for good people to live longer but we cannot necessarily dictates who deserves to live longer and who doesn’t. Good or bad, everyone may desire to live a little bit longer, if possible.

A common mindset has been recorded in Psalm 73:2-5, 2But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold. 3For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. 4They have no struggles; their bodies are healthy and strong. 5They are free from common human burdens; they are not plagued by human ills.

We’ve got preferences of what we want in life. We desire to have a physical body like the sculptured figure of athletes. We want to have abundant wealth for us to experience luxurious lifestyle that rich people indulge in or buy everything that the world may offer. Yet, what we wish does not come easily to us. Why would God not allow us to have all those things?

It was written in Matthew 4:3ff, 3The tempter came to Jesus and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” 6“If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. 8Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” 10Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’”

Provision, popularity, and power are things that many people worship unconsciously. Christ our Creator knows what’s best for us—that’s to worship and serve the Lord our God only.

Lord Jesus, please help me worship and serve You only.
