Wrongly Convicted

Ecclesiastes 3:16

In the place of judgment—wickedness was there, in the place of justice—wickedness was there.

How many prisoners are wrongly convicted? It is very tragic reality that innocent people go to prison. Books, movies and news headlines portray horrible actuality of inmates who spent decades in some awful prison cell. How many others are still behind bars? How many will die there? Just how often does our justice system fail? Such undesirable reality of justice system may remind us of the biblical records. Joseph son of Jacob was accused of wrongdoing by the wife of his Egyptian master. It says in Genesis 39:20, 20Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.

Failure of human justice system was very instrumental to the crucifixion of Christ. Pilate declared that he found no basis to crucify Jesus. In stated in John 19:6, 6As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw him, they shouted, “Crucify! Crucify!” But Pilate answered, “You take him and crucify him. As for me, I find no basis for a charge against him.”

God has ordained the Final Judgment Day. With God as the Judge, there is no wrongful conviction. Whether it’s favorable to us or not, whatever God has decided is the ultimate sentence.

It says in Hebrews 4:13, 13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Christ the Truth has warned in Matthew 12:36, 36But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.

While non—believers may consider it vindictive to be reminded of the reality of God’s Judgment Day, believers would be glad to be reminded that their lifestyle is worth living for. By faith, we look forward to the Great Day when God rewards us.

It says in 1 Peter 4:14, 14If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

Lord Jesus, please help me sense the presence of Your Spirit in me.
