Assail

Psalm 3:6

6I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.

Someone advised, “The battle is won even before it begins!” When facing a challenge, it could either be victory or defeat.

As believers of Christ, we have to rely upon the Lord to overcome challenges in life. We can learn from King Jehoshaphat. A vast army of enemies had prepared to assail and attack, and King Jehoshaphat was alarmed. He resolved to inquire of the Lord. It says in 2 Chronicles 20:14-15, 14 Then the Spirit of the Lord came on Jahaziel son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite and descendant of Asaph, as he stood in the assembly. 15He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.

King Jehoshaphat may have been reminded that his ancestor King David was always victorious against the enemies because he always resolved to inquire of the Lord. King Jehoshaphat had personally proven that dependence on the Lord delivered them from their enemies. It had been told that, “If there’s a will, there’s a way.” Truly, our reliance upon the Lord helps us experience that God always makes a way for anyone who trust in him. Jesus Christ declared in Luke 18:27, 27What is impossible with man is possible with God.

You may have been struggling with a very difficult challenge in life. You may have exerted all efforts you may have, but nothing has changed. You may have tried every possible remedy that has come to your mind, but still you cannot see any light at the end of the tunnel, so to say. Friend, pray seriously like: “Lord, increase my faith in you; help me make firm decision so that I may take practical steps that you would bring into my mind.” You may not be able to explain why you take a step, but peace from God assures you that you make the right decision.

Lord Jesus, fill my heart with your peace.
