Basketball

Ecclesiastes 11:9

9You who are young, be happy while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see, but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

Millions of young and older men are basketball enthusiasts. Like any other sports, basketball is supposed to be instrumental for better physical health, social upbringing and practice of drive to excel in teamwork.

One young person wanted to play basketball with his friends. However, his strict mother did not allow him to participate in basketball tournaments after she saw several injuries occurred on basketball courts. He did not insist on his desire to play basketball but silently wished his mother’s mind change one day. Years passed by, he grew advanced in his years as older adult, he appreciated his mother’s care for him. He observed his contemporaries who played in basketball tournaments have undesirable physical difficulties because of injuries they suffered while playing basketball. Their injuries were not treated very well because of lack of finances for advanced medical treatment.

While young people may have vast opportunities to excel in sports they may prefer to play, parents can be instrumental in supplementing valuable advice and encouragement. It is priceless ministry for Christian parents to regularly pray for their children. Each child is uniquely created and parents need godly wisdom to counsel aptly and encourage their children. It says in Proverbs 13:24, 24The one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.

Young people may choose to listen and heed their parents’ advice. They can practice their faith in God to pray for their parents as well. Does God want children to pray for their parents to say right words of encouragement?

Praying for one another is another means for parents and children believers to earn their eternal treasure in heaven! Maranatha!

Lord Jesus, please give wisdom to all Christian parents.
