Break

Psalm 2:9

9You will break them with a rod of iron; you will dash them to pieces like pottery.

In a video, a man was shown how he breaks a huge rock. He drilled several small holes on the side of the rock from top to bottom; he inserted pointed iron mason chisel in each of the small holes, then with sledgehammer, he struck each of the pointed iron mason chisel, from top to bottom. After few strikes, the man moved backward, waited a few seconds, and the huge rock broke in two pieces. Iron tools and much effort can break a huge hard rock into pieces.

In the past and even in modern generation, iron tools had been used to cut and break hard objects like rock. Iron was also used as deadly weapon. The Psalmist trusted that the Lord can break the stronghold of his enemies with iron weapons. The Lord can shatter and destroy adversaries into small piece like broken pottery. Enemies can cause problems and harms to anyone. The Lord can break and shatter problems or harms  into pieces. Do you believe that?

Apostle Paul challenges us in Romans 8:31-35, 31If God is for us, who can be against us? 32He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

New Year presents both opportunity for betterments and challenges in life. What problem or concern do you anticipate in the coming months? By faith in Christ, we trust that his grace sustains us as we follow his godly path to mission purposes that he assigned for us.

Lord Jesus, strengthen my faith to follow you.
