Carpenter

Ecclesiastes 10:18

18Through laziness, the rafters sag; because of idle hands, the house leaks.

There was Filipino carpenter who was good on building beautiful houses, but his own house needs repairs, why? Was it because he was lazy?

Arguably like many Filipino carpenters, he was not very well-paid. He just cannot afford the price of materials needed to repair his house; and, he needed to make a living.  He cannot take a break to repair his house; he was also easily swayed to have a drink with other carpenters; and so, instead of saving for materials he may use to repair his house, he spent his money for drinks. Someone said that alcoholics are less mindful about betterment of life.

Furthermore, anyone who has no earnest resolve to pursue improvement in life, they would just enjoy laziness and idleness. Laziness and idleness can victimize even believers.

Really?  How? It says in Philippians 2:12-15, 12Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. 14Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky.

The command “continue to work out” implies the need to activate believers from their stagnant and idle spiritual life. Spiritual laziness and idleness cannot help believers shine in this warped and crooked generation. Pray to be filled with godly wisdom and empowerment of the Holy Spirit for you to know and practice your spiritual gift so that you may fulfill and accomplish the good purpose of the Lord in your life; and, you will also experience the best life that the Lord had designed for you.

Lord Jesus, give me wisdom to accomplish your purposes for me.
