Crucial Fight

Ecclesiastes 10:5

5There is an evil I have seen under the sun, the sort of error that arises from a ruler.

Once upon a time, a promising boxer won several fights convincingly, and his name had become popular among local boxing fans. Then, a crucial bout was presented to him; and, he calculated it as next step in his boxing career to reach the national and international stage. His expectation had different result. His coach told him to drop the fight, and let his opponent win, because his manager had placed a huge amount of money and betted on his opponent. After the said crucial fight, the promising boxer quit boxing. Fiction or not, selfish decisions of some sports authorities had caused promising athletes to leave the sport they love.

It does not require much effort to find practical evidences just to prove erroneous decisions made by authorities. Conversely, authorities in secular and religious world are human beings with tendencies to commit errors. One can readily hear negative comments when unfavorable decision is made. Empathic defiance against employers, open criticism against government officials or gossips about religious leaders, such unpleasant remarks on authorities can possibly be ignited by disappointments and frustrations of erroneous decisions.

Nonetheless, believers are encouraged to always pray for authorities. It says in 1 Timothy 2:1-3, That petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior.

To pray for authorities is a godly command that pleases God. Can you agree that when God is pleased, he appropriates rewards for believers who regularly pray for authorities?

Lord Jesus, please empower me to regularly pray for authorities.
