Healthy Body

Proverbs 3:7-8

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.

Fitness Gym

A business expert advised, “If you plan to start a business, consider what you love to do and spend most of your time!” Business owners are not 8am to 5pm workers. Business requires most of waking hours of owners. So, unless you intentionally want to fail in your business, spend most of your waking hours taking care of your business.

What do you love to do very passionately and enthusiastically? What activity you spend extended time without complaining or grumbling? That could be the business you consider to venture into. Say for example: If you love to spend time in Fitness Gyms, you might as well consider venturing in a Fitness Gym business. Why? You can regularly exercise on extended hours while supervising your business, right? How about that?

Physical exercise is essential activity for every person who works for a living. Physically fit working people can work energetically more than sickly individuals. Even students with healthy bodies can spend longer time in their studies than sickly students. If you ask the older people, they may advise you to take care of your health.

Consider and pray that you may discover the best exercise you would love to do, if you wish to enjoy your activities while alive. The Lord had declared in Genesis 3:17:  17To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.

What reflection can you perceive from what the Lord told Adam? Can you accept that the Lord thought of all mankind and not just Adam, when he declared, “Through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life?”  What did the Lord imply when he said that through painful toil, we eat our food all the days of our life?

Does it come to you personally that if you would not exert physical effort, you would not eat your food? Does it particularly mean that if you stop exerting physical effort, your physical body will deteriorate and eventually stop enjoying your food?

Manual work like farming or any kind of livelihood would demand physical health. Even older retirees have to be active physically; if not, they become weak and sickly and they may even slowly lose their appetite for food and not enjoy their retirement.

But you may say: “I am not very active physically; I love to exercise but exercise do not love me; I sometime exercise and then lost my enthusiasm and diligence.”

So, have you discovered the secret of diligent physical exercise enthusiastically? Can you accept that God can help us have diligence to exercise enthusiastically?

“Enthusiasm” evolved from Greek terms en + theos, which means, possessed by God or have God within. When we believe in Christ, the Lord sent his Holy Spirit to be with us.

And when we seek help from the Lord, we practically respect and revere him.

1.  Revere

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.

Do you accept that humans are naturally sinful? And, we’re inclined to sin, right? So, if we can avoid sin, we can also avoid or shun evil, right? To revere or to fear the Lord, we choose godly righteousness and shun or avoid evil. We have to seek help from the Lord to avoid our sinful instinct. Indirectly, we admit that we are not intelligent enough.

By faith, we revere the Lord; we seek his help in every aspect of our life and we avoid or shun evil. Basically, we obey the command, “Do not be wise in our own eyes.”

Obedience to godly commands is best exhibit of fear of the Lord. Why does God command not to be wise in our own us eyes? To be wise in our own eyes means we do not ask help from the Lord but we follow our natural sinful mind which is inclined to sin.

The command, “Do not be wise in our own eyes” is warning from God of possible consequences of instinctive activities. Respect of God is most apparent when we take heed of his decrees very carefully. When we admit that our intellectual capacity is never enough to know everything, we seek help from the Lord. Actually, it’s godly wisdom.

Foolish and proud individuals are wise in their own eyes; they won’t ask God for help. Independence from God is wicked foolishness. It says in Psalm 10:4, 4In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.

And it also stated in Psalm 14:1, 1The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.

Unconsciously, we act like we are wise in our own eyes when we know what we are doing, such that when we do not pray, we do not ask God for guidance. It happens when we are rushing to our next appointment and controlled by worry or over self-confidence. It’s fair to conclude that foolishness has prevailed over us when we fail to pray.

Oftentimes, we just follow what others do instinctively. Why? Maybe, we hope that we may also gain something similar to results attained by those we follow.

Dance and sing

In this generation, there are online videos that one can imitate cooking, baking, painting, gardening, playing sports or exercising. There are videos posted online wherein actors dance and sing as form of exercise. Have you tried that? Perhaps, you wish and tried to exercise physically but you did not have any consistency. Why?

Have you ever prayed which kind of exercise you wish to do diligently?

Another term for diligence is consistency or faithfulness. Faithfulness is a result of faith, and only God has absolute consistency because he never changes. Therefore in prayer, we should seek God’s help for consistency, even when choosing which exercise would benefit us physically. Consistency or faithfulness at work, studies or exercise is possible in the Lord. To enjoy our activities and lifestyle is fullness of life.

In everything we do there’s problem, but by the grace of God, we keep on. If we cannot enjoy our activity, it’s easy to give up, right? We need refresher often. How?

2.  Refresh

This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.

This secret of healthy and refreshed body, and nourished bones are results of reverent fear of the Lord and staying away from evil practices. Everyone can be infected with virus even if we are very careful and have taken vaccines. And even if we stay isolated, we may still get sick from food or get mental sickness.

It was reported that leaders and experts in medical fields had been infected got sick also. Who then can take care of our health from unseen virus or other factors?

The Lord does. He controls our life; he set the length of time we live on this earth. If he allows us to get sick, we get sick. Whether we like it or not, we cannot change those realities. But sickness should not scare or deprive us from obeying or serving the Lord.

George Mueller

Have you heard the name George Mueller? What do you know about him? Accordingly, more than 10,000 lived in the orphanage he established over the years.

Before George went to full-time ministry, he got sick that he almost died. Was it God’s will for him? Probably! He was spared from serving the army because of his sickly body, yet God allowed him to live more than 93 years. Actually, you can search and read somewhere that George blamed his sickness on isolating himself for his studies.

It says in Psalm 91:1-8, 1Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” 3Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

5You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. 7A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.

There is no certainty that we may be healthy for many years. We eat food that we assume as nourishment for our body, we exercise or relax a bit to be energized, and we hope to enjoy longer life to see our dreams come true. But for sure, God decides when our time on earth is up. It is best for us to revere and praise God forever. Amen?
