Ecclesiastes 7:20

20Indeed, there is no one on earth who is righteous, no one who does what is right and never sins.

Mankind can be righteous in human’s opinion but Solomon the wisest king of Israel concluded that no mankind can achieve the perfect standard of God’s righteousness. Anyone who disputes Solomon’s conclusion questions the credibility of the Lord who gave him wisdom. Why would Solomon be wrong when the Lord sees the wickedness of human?

Genesis 6:5 says, The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. “All the time” includes human lifetime. We’ve got to repent like King David. He acknowledged in Psalm 51:5, Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. One may argue, “Do innocent infants sin?” It says in James 4:17, If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them. A follow up question, “Do innocent infants know right things to do or reject?” It says in Hebrews 11:6, And without faith it is impossible to please God.

The righteous innocent does not need to repent. No one is righteous according to God’s word. The Lord Jesus requires in Matthew 5:48, Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. So, how can we become perfect when the Scripture declares we are not righteous? Interestingly, Apostle Peter challenges us also in 1 Peter 1:14-15, As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do. How can we be holy children of the perfect and holy God? By faith in Christ, we are transformed into perfect and holy creatures!

How can we practically know that we have faith in Christ that makes us holy and perfect before God? We’ve got desire to seek and let the Spirit of Christ change our lifestyle and all aspects of our life, and He enables us to willingly obey His instructions accompanied with His peace and joy and without reluctance.

Lord Jesus, help me submit and obey Your Holy Spirit.
