Not Promising

Ecclesiastes 10:11

11 If a snake bites before it is charmed, the charmer receives no fee.

Snake charmer is not very promising profession. It is easy to search the internet about stories of snake charmers fatally bitten by snakes. Thoughtful individuals should not play or engaged with anything that would endanger them. Snake is symbolic of evil, vileness, wickedness, traitors or villains. Snakes are not very amusing to most people just as it is not very charming to trust individuals who gossips about other people.

Social media had been very instrumental to the exposure of individuals who quickly fight back when they experience unfavorable situations. Many disgruntled individuals are very hasty in posting on their social media account undesirable circumstances; they may have expected that they could gather much support to oppose what caused them to be disgruntled. Sadly, self-confessed Christians and believers who have not grown mature yet are not exempted.  What should be our right attitude when circumstances are not favorable to us?

Apostle Paul said in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, 16Rejoice always, 17pray continually, 18give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

When unfavorable situation happens, the natural tendency is to sulk, gripe or grumble; praying is not the first move. Human nature desires retribution, revenge and not thankful. Keep in mind that to rejoice always, pray continually and give thanks in all circumstances are godly commands. And, it is only by God’s grace that we can obey godly commands.

It says in 1 Peter 5:8, 8Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

There are snakes, traitors, fraudsters everywhere. Therefore, we need to be prayerful always and ask God’s help, even when we don’t know if we need it.

Lord Jesus, help me to be prayerful continually.
