Regulation

Psalm 1:2

2 but whose delight is in the law of   the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.

A story was circulated about a group of fishermen who caught so much fish at a certain river reserved for Aboriginals. They may have been excited about the large number of fish they caught when Aboriginals came and told them that non-Aboriginals are not allowed to fish in that particular reserved area; they instructed them to release the fish. There was language confusion though; the Aboriginals released all the fish back into the river and motioned to the non-Aboriginal fishermen to leave the place.

Catching so much fish and forcing to release them back into the water for the non-Aboriginals fishermen, that may have been unforgettable fishing experience to remember for extended time. Leisure fishermen may catch fish and then release them back into the water, but to spend precious time, bait and effort only to be wasted, that may have been unpleasant feeling for fishermen who may catch fish for food or profit. It’s not unusual story, but non-Aboriginal fishermen avoid fishing in that spot.

There are regulations for commercial or leisure fishing. Penalties for violations are specified. It favors those who observe regulations. Similarly, the laws of the Lord are regulations favorable to obedient believers and unpleasant penalty for violators. It is very commendable to meditate on the law of the Lord regularly to know, apply and discover much of the favorable blessing that the Lord prepared for obedience.

Jesus Christ declares in Luke 11:28, 28Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.

By faith, we believe that God has already released practical blessings for obedience, and believers will praise the Lord for his gracious love.

Lord Jesus, fill me with the Spirit of obedience.
