Sleeping

Psalm 4:8

8In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell   in safety.

One problem of growing old could be lack of night sleep. They compensate with day time sleep. There was a time when I can sleep anywhere, anytime. When my back touched the bed snoring followed in few moments. Whether I had coffee or not I did not have problem of getting night sleep. Now in my advance years, I observed that when I wake up past midnight, it takes few hours before I can sleep. So, I observed my intakes. When I drink a lot of coffee and soda, I cannot easily get to sleep. But when I am physically tired and no coffee after lunch, I slept soundly at night.

It declares in Ecclesiastes 5:12, 12The sleep of a laborer is sweet, whether they eat little or much, but as for the rich, their abundance permits them no sleep.

Manual labor can be instrumental to goodnight sleep. But with many things to worry about, anyone can be deprived of goodnight sleep. Does God allow us to be awake at night to pray for concerns of life? When deprived of goodnight sleep, for me, praying is very beneficial spiritually and physically.

Praying for personal concerns, family concerns or concerns of other people who may cross our mind can earn us eternal treasure. Personally, I observed that when I am awake at night and pray for anybody who may come to mind, I sense peaceful tranquility; I may have shorter sleep time at night but my physical body is rested. Praying can be a personal respond to Christ’s invitation to find rest in him.

Lord Jesus, help me find rest in you always.
