Speak to that Rock

Ecclesiastes 10:1

1As dead flies give perfume a bad smell, so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.

It says in Numbers 20:7-12, 7The Lord said to Moses, 8 “Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their livestock can drink.” 9 So Moses took the staff from the Lord’s presence, just as he commanded him. 10 He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, “Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?” 11 Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank. 12 But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.”

Moses was considered as the greatest leader of Israel; yet, the Lord did not allow him to enter the Promised Land. Why? The Lord instructed him very clearly, “Speak to the rock!” but Moses did not speak to the rock; he struck the rock because he was upset that Israel grumbled and complained against God; and, the Lord considered such disobedience as lack of trust that dishonor to his holiness in the sight of the Israelites.

Can you accept that the Lord has perfectly situated us to be blessed? He had already arranged series of events and circumstance as measurements for qualification to receive his blessings. It says in James 1:25, 25 Whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. The Lord included blessings in his commands; and, obedience to his instructions is the right key to open wide the door of his grace and blessings.

Lord Jesus, increase my faith to joyfully and willingly obey you.
