Ecclesiastes 10:15

¹⁵ The toil of fools wearies them; they do not know the way to town.   

Many construction workers love drinking wine. Irrationally, they justify that wine can help clean their lungs from dust they inhaled from construction site. And it was told about a young man who worked as construction laborer at a nearby village. After they received their salary, the young man and other construction laborers bought sugarcane wine locally made by villagers. The young man got drunk, and it was very late at night when he walked homeward bound to his hometown. Tragically, he fell down a cliff.

The sun had risen on the following day, when a passerby saw the helpless young man and brought him to the hospital. He suffered fractured bones; and, it took few years of recovery before he was able to work again. Too much wine can cause foolish steps, like the drunkard young man, who did not find his way homeward bound, but to a hospital.

What does the Scripture say about drinking wine? Extreme conservatives avoid wine. Extreme Liberals drink wine. Moderates practice social drinking occasionally with caution. It says in Proverbs 31:4-7, ⁴It is not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer, ⁵lest they drink and forget what has been decreed, and deprive all the oppressed of their rights. ⁶Let beer be for those who are perishing, wine for those who are in anguish! ⁷Let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more.

Apostle Paul associates drunkenness to foolishness in Ephesians 5:17-18, ¹⁷Do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. ¹⁸ Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

If your loved ones, friends or acquaintances have alcohol problem, pray continually for them to be filled with the Holy Spirit of God until they will recover completely.

                    Lord Jesus, fill us and our loved ones with your Holy Spirit.
