The Chef

Ecclesiastes 9:13-16

13 I also saw under the sun this example of wisdom that greatly impressed me: 14 There was once a small city with only a few people in it. And a powerful king came against it, surrounded it and built huge siege works against it. 15 Now there lived in that city a man poor but wise, and he saved the city by his wisdom. But nobody remembered that poor man. 16 So I said, “Wisdom is better than strength.” But the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are no longer heeded.

Once upon a time, a local chef won a televised cooking competition held in his little known province. Subsequently, he was on the front page of several newspapers and made him a household name nationally; and then, he was invited to several national and international cooking competitions; and remarkably, he won most of them. Thoughtfully, he invested his prize money. He ventured in restaurant that steadily prospered and expanded; and, his little known province turned into tourist attraction. Everyone wanted a taste of his delicacies. The local chef aspired for greater opportunities; he desired that his province would become “Cuisine Capital.” So during election, he filed his candidacy for Provincial Governor. Some were enthusiastic but others were not ready for a local chef to be their governor. They knew that he was a great cook but not necessarily capable of governance.

It says in Daniel 2:20-21, 20Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. 21He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.

Would you accept that God help us know which career path we should follow? Certainly, the Lord wants us to follow the career path he designed for our betterment. Pray to be filled with the Spirit of wisdom and revelation to know which career path to take.

Lord Jesus, let Your Holy Spirit lead me to the career path You want me to excel in.
