 Ecclesiastes 7:12

12Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this:   Wisdom preserves those who have it.

A former NBA player has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for gun possession. He was convicted of criminal possession of a weapon after officers found a gun in his car during a traffic stop. The 33-year-old former point guard was pulled over after parking on a center median, making a U-turn off the median and driving without headlights. The officers reported that they smelled the odor of marijuana and observed a lit marijuana cigarette in the car’s console. The officers searched the vehicle and recovered a loaded .45 caliber gun in the console. The mandatory prison sentence he received is required by law, and he has now been held accountable for the unlawful conduct.

It says in Proverbs 2:12-15, 12Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse, 13who have left the straight paths to walk in dark ways, 14who delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil, 15whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways.

The former NBA player may have much money that cannot save him from the mandatory penalty of his violation. Unlawful conduct exhibits lack of wisdom. The person who has wisdom does what’s right, proper and beneficial. It says in 1 Corinthians 1:24, 24To those whom God has called… Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. James 4:17 says, 17If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.

As believer, we received godly wisdom when we accepted Christ as Lord so that we do what’s right. His words define what’s right before God, and to disregard them is foolishness which leads to sin. We can only do what’s right in God’s eyes when Christ prevails in all aspects of our life, whether consciously or unconsciously.  Ephesians 5:18 says, 18Be filled with the Spirit. It’s mandatory to be filled with Christ’s Spirit if we expect our actions, thoughts, and decisions result to rejoicing and praise of God.

Lord Jesus, empower and fill me with Your Spirit always.
