Ecclesiastes 11:10

¹⁰Banish anxiety from your heart and cast off the troubles of your body, for youth and vigor are meaningless. 

What does it imply when anxiety and trouble are mentioned in the same Scriptural reference with youth and vigor? Does it mean that anxiousness and concerns of physical appearance are matters of interest generally for young people? Does it mean that if you are very much concerned of your physical body, you still have the attributes of the youth? Do younger people have anxiousness of their physical appearance more than people in their prime life?

Many, if not most individuals in their advance years, may not be very much concerned about their body figure, shape, weight or height. They could be more concerned about their blood pressure and sugar level which may not be necessarily obvious on outside appearance. Most obese individuals are assumed to have high blood pressure, but it is not wise to assume that a skinny person is exempted either. In comparison, young people could be very concerned when their physical feature is scrutinized negatively or positively.

Do fitness enthusiast young people visit fitness gyms to build muscles and maintain their physical shape only? Do older people visit fitness gyms as necessary measure to maintain their physical health or for rehabilitation purposes only?

Generally, gym visits imply health concerns. While it is very advisable to take care of our physical body, as believers, we are advised to be more serious in taking care of our spiritual life. Jesus said in John 11:25-26, ²⁵I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; ²⁶and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.

As believers of Christ, we have to be very sure that we don’t deceive ourselves with presumption that we believe in him. Our lifestyle should be a living proof for us that we truly have faith in him.

Lord Jesus, please help me grow stronger in my faith in you.
