Ecclesiastes 11:8

⁸However many years anyone may live, let them enjoy them all. But let them remember the days of darkness, for there   will be many. Everything to come is meaningless.            

What do you normally post on your social media account? Of course, nice and desirable pictures, right? For sure, caring friends and followers would readily click the “like” icon. When lighted candle is posted as temporary profile, owners of the social media accounts signal grief for the death of their love ones. Thus, to click the “like” button is not very appropriate.

Truly, life on earth is temporary. We may wish to live long, but the Lord decides it when it’s time for him to take back the life he gave us. We cannot escape for sure; there are ups and downs through life, dark stormy days and sunny days that we may encounter. Natural calamities should warn us not to be puzzled by struggles in life. Sunny days should inspire us to hope and expect favorable situations and not to languish in pessimistic mindset.

And since we cannot control the length of our life, what should we do? When a woman is pregnant, she expects her child to be born. Being so, she prepares diapers, clothes and anything she knew that her baby may need. Likewise, if we expect that we will live in heaven forever, we should prepare for it also, right?  What do we prepare for eternal dwelling?

The Lord Jesus Christ instructed in Matthew 6:19-21, ¹⁹Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. ²⁰But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. ²¹For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

If you haven’t seriously paid attention yet, start storing up for yourselves treasures in heaven. How? Obedience to biblical instructions is a great place to start. You won’t regret it!

Lord Jesus, help me be diligent in storing up eternal treasures.
