Destiny for All

Ecclesiastes 9:2

All share a common destiny—the righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad, the clean and the unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not. As it is with the good, so with the sinful; as it is with those who take oaths, so with those who are afraid to take them.

A woman noticed big changes to daily life in Tuscany amid COVID-19 spread. In Italy, the COVID-19 virus has already killed hundreds.  “It kind of boggled my mind a bit because the schools have been shut down here, so it’s not like this should be taken lightly. Before this all happened, it was just like regular, everyday life. You’d see people in the parks. You’d see people walking their dogs,” said the Regina-born teacher who has been living in Tuscany, southeast of Pisa.  She said that she wouldn’t let her own son (a toddler) play outside even if it is business as usual at the moment. More recently, as a result of the spreading virus, there are fewer people in the streets, in the grocery store and in the markets. Public officials recommend people keep a three-foot buffer zone between themselves.

To cover the face in winter is acceptable. But some cultures require women to cover their face all year round. Some religious people bow their heads to greet each other, instead of shake hands or cheek to cheek. Cultural practices (like covering of face or bowing) may have been originally practised as precaution to spread virus?  It says in Ecclesiastes 1:8-11, 8 All things are wearisome, more than one can say. The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing. 9 What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. 10 Is there anything of which one can say, “Look! This is something new”? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time. 11 No one remembers the former generations, and even those yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow them.

Scared or not, everyone dies one day. Are you assured of your eternal destiny, yet?

Lord Jesus, increase my faith to trust anytime, good or bad.
