Psalm 3:8

8From the Lord comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.

Tornado Watch had been issued in some southern states beyond the border. Residents were advised to prepare and evacuate. Some residents may ignore the warning and suffer terrible consequences. Natural calamities like tornadoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes are not supposed to be ignored. When we make major decisions, it is sensible to seek wisdom from God even when natural disaster occurs instead of rushing or just ignoring a warning.

Paying attention to warnings against natural calamities does not accurately guarantee that one is totally safe and secure. There are other possible dangerous situations that may occur anytime, anywhere. But if we do the best we can during difficult situations, it may lessen regrets or blame-games afterward.

Our Lord Jesus Christ had warned in Matthew 24:4-8, 4Watch out that no one deceives you. 5For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. 6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.

Horrible circumstances that we cannot control may happen in any generation. Christ declared calamities as beginnings of birth pain for his imminent return. It is prudent to make sure that we are spiritually ready for his second advent. Personally, are you sure that you won’t be left behind when Christ takes believers into his heaven when he returns sooner? It is tactful to prepare in advance for practical matters but it is eternally beneficial to be prepared for spiritual matters. It is laudable testimony of our faith in Christ to do our best practically or spiritually. Our behavior has eternal consequences. We’ve got to be dependent on the Lord always, may it be for practical needs or spiritual growth.

Lord Jesus, help me rely upon you always!
