Way of Insight

Proverbs 9:1-6

1Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars. 2She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table. 3She has sent out her servants, and she calls from the highest point of the city, 4“Let all who are simple come to my house!” To those who have no sense she says, 5“Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed. 6Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of insight.”

Folklorama

Have you visited the Folklorama Festival? Do you plan to go to Folklorama?

The month of August had been scheduled for Folklorama. Folklorama starts on the first Sunday of August in the city of Winnipeg for two weeks long celebration. At the Folkorama Festival, visitors are invited to taste and sample different cuisines from numerous ethnic heritage of people. This Folklorama festival is practical proof that celebration is integral part of our social life.

We gather together as congregation and celebrate our assurance of eternal life in Christ. Believers can be discouraged, and it reminds in Hebrews 10:22-25, 24And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

The Day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns to take us into his heaven is coming sooner than later. The signs that he warned to happen before his arrival are actually happening right before our eyes. Certainly, we need faith to believe the warning of Christ; we need wisdom to practically do what he told us to do.

Rumors of wars, pandemic, natural calamities, famine, recession and unexpected turns of terrible events can affect anyone negatively or positively. But by faith in Christ, he inspires us to gather regularly and set up activities together.

1.  Set Up

1Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars. 2She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table.

Pronouns her and she pertain to wisdom. “Wisdom has built her house” implies legal ownership, complete access and total use of amenities in the house without condition, no hesitation. A house is a place of safety, family fellowship, rest or comfort. “Wisdom has set up its seven pillars” can be intelligent choice of durability of materials used in the house as opposed to aesthetic features only. “Wisdom has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table,” pertain to fellowship or celebration when it defies problems, calamities or storms.

Ownership of a house can be huge practical accomplishment for anyone. Wisdom is integral factor in building a house. It requires wisdom to build a house.

House is major expenditure. It needs sensible planning. How much one can afford. When you choose a very expensive house and you work double time just to pay your mortgage, do you consider that as wise decision or lack of understanding?

However, whatever we spend with our hard earned money, godly wisdom reminds us to consider and prepare for our eternal situation all the times.

Rich Man

Christ told a parable of a rich man in Luke 12:16-21, 16“The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. 17He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’ 18“Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. 19And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’ 20“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ 21“This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”

Surely, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ prepared a house for us in heaven. We believe that reality through faith in him. But he also commanded to store up treasures in heaven for ourselves. Treasures in heaven can be earned as we obey him—he instructed to witness for him. His Holy Spirit inspires and transforms us. All believers are sent out to testify of his transformational work in our life.

2.  Send Out

3She has sent out her servants, and she calls from the highest point of the city, 4“Let all who are simple come to my house!” To those who have no sense she says,5“Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed. 6Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of insight.”

Again, the pronoun “she and her” pertains to “wisdom.” Wisdom sends out her servants. What does it imply? Wisdom has authority and supremacy to have servants. Wisdom does not hide. Wisdom can be heard and known from the most visible location. Wisdom invites everyone who is sensible. The terms “food and drink” suggest that wisdom offers sustainable provision and celebration.

The term “simple ways” can interpreted as not being sure of what they can do so that they prefer to do ordinary things. “Ways of insight” includes anything that are extra-ordinary that exceptional individuals have accomplished.

What ordinary activity can we observe from everyone? Study well, get a good paying job, go to work, save money, raise a family, take vacation and die! That’s it? Ask any ordinary person, and they will tell you similar plan for their life.

That is not a bad idea or dream. Everyone have similar expectation in life.

So, what difference of lifestyle can we have, if we get wisdom from God?

Rag to Riches

Rag to riches is wonderful story plot we enjoy to hear over and over again.

There’s a young man; he had nothing to boast as compared to his more illustrious brothers. He was just obedient to his father. Ordinary instruction was given him but he gladly obeyed with much enthusiasm. Did he know that obedience to his father was also a divine appointment for prestige, respect, honor, authority and wealth to start pouring into his life? That day, David defeated the Giant Goliath.

It started with obedience to his father. Surely, David had obeyed similar instruction from his father before. But with divine timing, David did not miss that appointed occasion for him. Any ordinary simple person may delay obedience to parents, but the young David displayed godly wisdom when, at very early in the morning, he obeyed an ordinary instruction he may have done it before.

It seems like any ordinary day of obedience when his father sent him out to bring food supply for his brothers who had no high esteem of him; David did not know that it was the day that God had set up for him to be recognized as hero.

What do you think David had secretly desired in his life? Did he dreamed to be a hero, greatest warrior, king of Israel, build beautiful palace, acquire much wealth and retire at the good old age? Maybe! And God gave him all those things.

Yet King David had personal desire recorded in Psalm 27:4-5, 4One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. 5For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.

With godly wisdom we desire to be with the Lord in his sanctuary regularly.

Do you sense like your life story can be just ordinary like any other people?

Pray for stronger faith. Pray that godly wisdom prevails in your heart and mind.

What ordinary instruction have you been doing regularly?

Watch out! Any ordinary day could be divine appointment God set up for you.

The Lord sends us out to testify of his transformational work in our life.

Keep praying for stronger faith and godly wisdom to obey the Lord gladly.
