Vindicate

Psalm 7:8

8Let the Lord judge the peoples. Vindicate me, Lord, according to my righteousness, according to my integrity, O Most High.

To be vindicated is glorious feeling when falsely accused of something we did not do. When Abraham was undecided where he may permanently dwell in Canaan, he moved from place to place and came to the city of Gerar. He was scared that the people of Gerar may harm him because of his wife Sarah; he instructed her to tell anyone who asks that they were siblings. Sarah was almost 90 years old and still beautiful. Abimelek king of Gerar took Sarah to be his wife; he had no idea that Sarah was Abraham’s wife. Interestingly, God warned Abimelek in his dream that he will die if he won’t return Sarah to Abraham.

It narrated in Genesis 20:14-16, 14Then Abimelek brought sheep and cattle and male and female slaves and gave them to Abraham, and he returned Sarah his wife to him. 15And Abimelek said, “My land is before you; live wherever you like.” 16To Sarah he said, “I am giving your brother a thousand shekels of silver. This is to cover the offense against you before all who are with you; you are completely vindicated.”

God knows that Abimelek had a clear conscience. Abimelek returned Sarah to Abraham and gave them abundant gifts as practical proof of his remorse for his offense. Abraham prayed for Abimelek, and the Lord healed Abimelek and his household.

Unmindfully, everyone may do something undesirable to the Lord. God is love; he reminds us when we commit mistakes that are not pleasant to him. So when we sense remorse for wrongdoings, we should quickly seek his vindication.

Personally how do you practically prove your remorse before God? God is merciful. He forgives and forgets repented sins. He also removes guilt feelings. When God vindicates us, he restores the joy of our salvation.

Lord Jesus, vindicate and give me peaceful joy.
