Moses Climbed

Psalm 1:6

6For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

In Deuteronomy 34:1-7, 1Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, across from Jericho. There the Lord showed him the whole land—from Gilead to Dan, 2all of Naphtali, the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Mediterranean Sea, 3the Negev and the whole region from the Valley of Jericho, the City of Palms, as far as Zoar4Then the Lord said to him, “This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it.” 5And Moses the servant of the Lord died there in Moab, as the Lord had said. 6He buried him in Moab, in the valley opposite Beth Peor, but to this day no one knows where his grave is. 7Moses was a 120 old when he died, yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone.

Wow! That could be an expression of amazement to what Moses did before he died. When at old age of 120, Moses climbed Mount Nebo, it testifies that he was still strong; and that could be headline news in this generation. Mount Nebo in Jordan is reported to be 2,330 feet above sea level and has gradual slope. Moses died at old age, yet his eyes were not weak, and he even saw the Promise Land from a distance as far as the Mediterranean sea. Although Moses had his share of failures, God was pleased with him and watched over him until old age.

No argument needed. Everyone has expiration date. Being aware of that reality, we pray that our Lord Jesus Christ may come in our lifetime, and we seek God to watch over us, if he allows us to reach old age. Indeed, it is wonderful to be strong and productive even at old age; and it is very desirable to walk with our own feet with ease even at old age. Can you agree?

May the Lord our God bless each one of us to be righteous and productive until old age!
