Kneel

Psalm 5:7

7But I, by your great love, can come into your house; in reverence I bow down toward your holy temple.

Multitudes of religious people spend much time and effort bowing down before a statue or an image of a god. Others enter a building in kneeling position as personal sacrifice and practical expression of their personal sincere devotion. Is it a very humble way of reverence to bow down? It shows submission to higher authority; it implies lower position than the ordinary.

However, many people are misled by religious practices when they try to imitate what religious people do so that they may also appear religious before others, and not because they have faith in God. Undeniably, there are religious people who are very sincere in their devotion to God. The Lord knows them for sure. It was narrated in Acts 10:1-4, 1There was a man named Cornelius, a centurion in what was known as the Italian Regiment. 2He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly. 3One day at about three in the afternoon he had a vision. He distinctly saw an angel of God, who came to him and said, “Cornelius!” 4Cornelius stared at him in fear. “What is it, Lord?” he asked. The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God. 5Now send men to Joppa to bring back a man named Simon who is called Peter.

Subsequently, Peter explained the death and resurrection of Christ. After the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the gospel, Cornelius and his household put their faith in Christ, and they were baptized. Religious practices cannot save anybody from eternal destruction. When we put our faith in Christ, the Lord gives us his Holy Spirit as warranty that we have been saved from eternal destruction, and Christ takes us into heaven when he comes. The Holy Spirit produces goodness and kindness to others as practical proof of his presences in us.

Lord Jesus, help me reverently bow down before you.
