Ecclesiastes 7:19

19Wisdom makes one wise person more powerful than ten rulers in a city.

King Solomon was considered the wisest king of Israel. There was peace in Israel during his reign. It says in 1 Kings 4:21, Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the Euphrates River to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. These countries brought tribute and were Solomon’s subjects all his life. It also says in 2 Chronicles 9:13-14, The weight of the gold that Solomon received yearly was 666 talents, not including the revenues brought in by merchants and traders. Also all the kings of Arabia and the governors of the territories brought gold and silver to Solomon.

During the lifetime of Solomon, surrounding nations never bothered to attack Israel. They brought tributes to King Solomon instead. Were they scared of Solomon?  Probably not! Perhaps, they were just cautious. They knew that King Solomon was wiser than them so that they anticipated defeat if they planned to go to war against him. Additionally, King Solomon married hundreds of foreign women with royal birth so that he may have peace treaties with the royal fathers of his wives. Therefore, if one nation tries to attack Israel, it would be a futile escapade, for sure, why? Nations where his wives came from will surely help King Solomon.

Everyone has battles at different scales. Wisdom from the Lord can help us win battles or even prevent encounters of battle. It has been said that ‘prevention is better than remedy.’ Not a few struggles in their battle against addiction to vices, bad habits or influences. Wisdom from God can helps us prevent battle encounter. Christ said that He came for us to experience life to its fullness (John 10:10). Christ the author of life has designed godly lifestyle as the best lifestyle we can ever experience in this world. A godly lifestyle is the culmination of life to its fullness that Christ has promised to all who believe in Him. When Christ’s Spirit reigns in our life, we experience joy and peace, even in the midst of different battles in life…

Lord Jesus, let joy and peace prevail in me.
