Face Value

Psalm 5:9

9Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their heart is filled with malice. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongues they tell lies.

Many spectators took it at face value when a new general manager declared that he wants a particular basketball player to be with their basketball team for another four years or so at the least. Few weeks passed by, the said particular player found himself traded to a new basketball team. Instantly, spectators concluded that general managers of basketball teams cannot be trusted in their promises while others may hesitantly accept that it is all business.

For businesses to thrive, great opportunities should be taken advantage of. Businesses cannot be predicted absolutely, even in professional basketball. Not just in basketball but also in other professional sports, professional players and their families including fanatic observers are emotionally affected by unexpected turn of events during business transactions. They may expect things they can control, but owners should have control of their own business, right?

What can we easily control? Can we control decisions to live a godly life? Psalm 14:1-3, 1The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. 2The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. 3All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.

Only God knows the truth; beyond any doubt, he knows what is deceitful. It simply exemplifies foolishness to disregard the word of God. Understanding that comes from God is exemplified when we accept the word of God as true and reliable. Godly wisdom prompts us to obey his word. Believe or disregard cannot change God. But, there are consequences. We enjoy life to its fullness that may translate into eternity if by faith we believe and obey God.

Lord Jesus, please increase my faith and obey you.
