Psalm 12:5
5“Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the Lord. “I will protect them from those who malign them.”
Whenever the Israelites cried out and sought protection from the Lord, he will give them a deliverer who protected them from their oppressors. It narrated in Judges 3:12-15, 12Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, and because they did this evil the Lord gave Eglon king of Moab power over Israel. 13Getting the Ammonites and Amalekites to join him, Eglon came and attacked Israel, and they took possession of the City of Palms. 14The Israelites were subject to Eglon king of Moab for eighteen years. 15Again the Israelites cried out to the Lord, and he gave them a deliverer—Ehud, a left-handed man, the son of Gera the Benjamite.
The term “again” suggests that a situation happened once more. The Israelites repeatedly did what the Lord considers as evil. Whenever they repeated their evil ways and behavior, the Lord abandoned them on their own, and they were left helpless when enemies attacked and oppressed them. Oppression can be physical, mental or emotional abuse. Oppression or abuse is takes away the enjoyment of freedom to live peacefully. Anyone may ignore oppressions or abuses but certainly not for extended period of time.
Have you been in situation where you cannot enjoy your life peacefully? Have you been physically, mentally, emotionally oppressed by someone or something? Do you feel like you were oppressed when your privilege is not granted?
God is compassionate; he readily helps anyone who sincerely seeks his help. The Lord promised to protect the poor and helpless from those who malign them. But we have to cry out to him. To cry out to the Lord implies sincere trust in him. Certainly, the Lord can easily identify a sincere believer.
Lord Jesus, bless me to seek your help always.
