Remember
Psalm 6:6
6I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.
Can you remember the time when you were very lonely and you shed much tears all night long?
A man was reminded of the past when some of his favored friends stopped communicating with him. He tried to think what went wrong but cannot recall why his friends blocked all forms of communication with him. He asked himself, “Was it because my lifestyle is unbearable to them? Was it because they did not find me worthy of their time? Was it because they just choose to ignore me altogether? What’s wrong with them? What’s wrong with me?”
Have you ever had friends who stopped communicating with you? Do you miss them? Do you feel lonely that they just quit calling you for no clear reasons? The Lord Jesus Christ was betrayed by Judas Iscariot. The other disciples deserted him when he was arrested. When he was interrogated by Jewish leaders, he was denied three times by Simon Peter who did not want to identify as friend of Jesus.
Judas Iscariot, Peter and the other apostles of Jesus were with him for more than three years. They saw firsthand the miracles he did. They ate, drank and travelled together from place to place. It narrated in Matthew 26:35, 35Peter declared, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.” And all the other disciples said the same.
What happened to their declaration?
Human beings are limited. We cannot be completely faithful, even to dearest friends. Faithfulness in the real meaning of the term is attributed to our faithful God. Faithfulness is fruit of his Holy Spirit. Therefore, we may expect faithfulness from friends when the Holy Spirit is active in their life. It is really sad when friends leave us for no reason. So if we truly cherish their friendship, we should regularly pray that our friends would be filled with the Holy Spirit always.
Lord Jesus, always fill my friends with your Holy Spirit.
