Psalm 13:2

2How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?

At a very young age, David was anointed as the next king of Israel. Did David seriously expect that he will eventually become king of Israel? For several years after his anointing as king of Israel, he may have wrestled with the thought, “When will I be crowned as king of Israel?” Then, David was victorious over Goliath. It narrated in 1 Samuel 18:6-7, 6When the men were returning home after David had killed Goliath the Philistine, the women came out from all the towns of Israel to meet King Saul with singing and dancing, with joyful songs and with timbrels and lyres. 7As they danced, they sang: “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands.”

The envious King Saul did not appreciate that David was credited with tens of thousands. So, King Saul plotted to eliminate David. However, the Lord kept David safe and secure. After King Saul died in battle, David was crowned king of Israel.

Exactly, God designed circumstances and events to happen according to his divine timing.  Have you wrestled with expectations that may happen in your life? You worked so hard, and you expected promotion or increase of salary. Yet for whatever reason, your expectation has not come true, just yet. Do you feel bad or dismayed? When expectation fails, frustration creeps in. When we feel dejected or depressed, we learn from King David in Psalm 4:1, 1Answer me when I call to you, my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer.

It is unpleasant feeling when expectation won’t happen yet. But when we wrestle with distress and sorrow of heart, we seek mercy and relief from God. King David overcame distress and sorrow of heart whenever he sought mercy and relief from God.

Lord Jesus, fill me with gladness to praise you..
