Psalm 12:6

⁷You, Lord, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked.  

Tariff has dominated the headline news, and the media tried to promote one side or the other. The newly elected president of a certain country implemented tariffs on goods coming from another country. The implementation of tariff has confused most people, why? A tariff or duty is a domestic tax levied, imposed or collected by governments on the value that includes freight or shipping and insurance of imported products coming into a country. Tariffs are commonly used in international trade as a protectionist measure that can make imported products more expensive than domestic ones. Tariffs on imports are eventually passed on to consumers. Does it favor a country to impose tariffs on imported products?

Certainly, local producers may benefit from the implementation of tariff on imported products, and consumers have to be smart in their expenditures. Tariff may affect the economy and everyone else. We should regularly pray that God grants wisdom to our government officials so that their decisions may favor us instead of protesting or grumbling against them. Reflect on 1 Timothy 2:-3, ¹I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— ²for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. ³This is good, and pleases God our Savior, ⁴who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

We all desire to have peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. Whenever you are tempted to complain against the government, pray for them instead. Praying for authorities is urgent that surely benefits citizens when officials decide wisely.

  Lord Jesus, grant wisdom to our government officials.
