Psalm 9:12

12 For he who avenges blood remembers; he does not ignore the cries of the afflicted.

It is narrated in Genesis 4:6-13, 6The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” 8Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. 9Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” “I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?” 10The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.

11Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.” 13Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is more than I can bear.

At the very beginning when Cain committed the first crime in human history, the Lord exemplified that he avenges on behalf of the innocent. He hears the cries of the oppressed. When the Lord told Cain that the blood of Abel cries out from the ground, he attentively listens to the prayer of the brokenhearted. Cain was furious when Abel sacrificed to God a far better and acceptable offering. Likewise, not all students can appreciate your high grades in school. Not all employees will be happy that your employer noticed your hard work and promote you. Not all church attendees can readily rejoice when you diligently participate in the ministry that God prepared in advance for you to do. Such indifferent attitude to goodness reflects the rebellious tendency of humanity. Nevertheless, we continue to behave properly at any given opportunity. The Lord rewards what we deserve; he declares in Psalm 75:2, 2I choose the appointed time; it is I who judge with equity.

Lord Jesus, listen to my affliction
