Enemy

Psalm 9:3

3My enemies turn back; they stumble and perish before you.

Before the young man David defeated the giant Goliath who had been a warrior from his youth, he confidently declared in 1 Samuel 17:45-47, 45“You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

Exactly as David had prophesied, the Lord delivered the Philistines into the hands of the Israelites. When the Philistines saw that their hero giant Goliath was dead, they turned and ran away for their lives. Then the Israelites chased the Philistines; carcasses of Philistine were scattered along the road to their cities. When the Israelites returned from chasing the Philistines, they plundered their camp. The Lord saved the Israelites that day just as David had prophesied.

When David was a shepherd, he saved a sheep from a lion and a bear. He trusted the Lord as his shepherd just as he shepherded the flock of his father. He personally experienced firsthand how the Lord kept him safe from ferocious beasts. Before David killed the giant Goliath, the Israelite army was so scared. After his victory, the Israelites were encouraged and chased the Philistines.

Has your faith in God been tested yet? As believers of Christ, we face spiritual battles at any moment. When we practically experience deliverance of the Lord and come out victorious, it practically proves our faith in him; our testimony will certainly encourage others to trust the Lord.

Lord Jesus, strengthen my faith to trust you more.
