Psalm 10:10-11
10His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength. 11The wicked says to himself, “God will never notice; he covers his face and never sees.”
Imagine: You wake up early in the morning. You were rushing to catch the first bus. But then you notice a dog lying on the ground near the bus stop, what would you do? Will you be curious and see if the dog is just sleeping and not dead? Will you report it to authorities or just leave it alone? How strong do you care for the welfare of dogs? In another scenario, imagine that it’s actually a person who was lying on the ground and not a dog; do you still care like you care for dogs?
How do we practice our faith in Christ if a needy person comes to our attention? Reflect on what in narrated in Mark 14:3-7, 3A woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head. 4Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? 5It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly. 6“Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me.
Christ appreciated it as beautiful when poured on his head a perfume worth a year’s wages (approximately $30,000.00 in today’s currency). But how should we practice faith in Christ when helping the needy? Pray and seek inspiration of the Holy Spirit and you won’t publish your kindness to the needy on social media. Christ prescribes in Matthew 6:3-4, 3When you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Lord Jesus, empower me to be kind in secret.
