Trap

  Psalm 7:15

15 Whoever digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit they have made.

Hunters dig holes to trap wild animals. Bad elements dig holes to ambush naïve victims but their evil plans backfire on them. How could that be?

In the Book of Esther, King Xerxes honored Haman higher than all the other nobles. At the king’s command, all the Royal Officials at the king’s gate knelt down and paid honor to Haman. But Mordecai did not kneel down or pay him honor. Haman boasted to his friend about his vast wealth and supremacy above the other nobles and officials, but he was furious that Mordecai ignored him. His friends advised in Esther 5:14, 14 “Have a pole set up, reaching to a height of fifty cubits, and ask the king in the morning to have Mordecai impaled on it. Then go with the king to the banquet and enjoy yourself.” This suggestion delighted Haman, and he had the pole set up.

After praying and fasting, Queen Esther told King Xerxes about the evil plan of Haman against Mordecai. It narrated in Esther 7:9-10, 9One of the eunuchs attending the king, said, “A pole reaching to a height of fifty cubits stands by Haman’s house. He had it set up for Mordecai, who spoke up to help the king.” The king said, “Impale him on it!” 10 So they impaled Haman on the pole he had set up for Mordecai.

What do you think? Did the Lord allow Haman to be honored and trapped on its own evil plan against Mordecai? If King Xerxes honored Haman above all other nobles but he also ordered the death of Haman, what will God do? It declares in Psalm 75:7, It is God who judges: He brings one down, he exalts another.

Can you agree that God blesses with wealth and power to be used for his glory? Can you accept that if wealth and power are used against his will, God will take them away? When you pray for blessing, pray also for wisdom to glorify the Lord.

Lord Jesus, please fill me with godly wisdom.
