Psalm 9:17
17 The wicked go down to the realm of the dead, all the nations that forget God.
Not everyone can appreciate biblical reality of eternal destination of people who intentionally forget God. Curiously, they claim that they don’t believe in God or eternal destiny. So, what causes them to be upset when they hear biblical truth about their eternal destination? Do they imply that somehow they expect biblical truth about God as possibility but they just cannot completely embrace it, just yet?
By faith and with inspiration of the Holy Spirit, we interpret that when God created mankind, he included a sense of eternity in our heart, just as it implied in Ecclesiastes 3:11, 11He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time. He has also planted eternity [a sense of divine purpose] in the human heart [a mysterious longing which nothing under the sun can satisfy, except God]—yet man cannot find out (comprehend, grasp) what God has done (His overall plan) from the beginning to the end. (Amplified Bible)
They may not always speak about, but materially successful people may not verbally admit that they cannot stop searching for contentment. Are they longing for eternal gratification? Of course, eternal gratification can only be found in heaven and not in this temporal world. Warnings against eternal destination of the wicked were documented to warn believers of God and not to scare those who forget God. Lest we forget, it recorded in Revelation 21:4, 4He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.
Lord Jesus, please increase my faith in you.
