Psalm 18:11

11God made darkness his covering, his canopy around him—the dark rain clouds of the sky.

Why does God hide behind dark clouds? The Lord warned Moses in Exodus 33:20, 20You cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.

God is holy. Mankind is sinful. Sin prevents mankind from seeing the Holy God. Sin is disgusting to the Righteous God. And God decreed that the penalty of sin is death. Death is separation from life. Our Lord Jesus Christ declared in John 14:6, 6I am the way the truth and the life. No one come to the Father except through me.

We are sinful and destined to be separated from God, but Christ offers opportunity that we may come to God the Father and live with him forever. It’s truly scary to imagine that we could be separated from God because of our sins. Just imagine being separated from your loved ones. It’s not very pleasant. But to be separated from cruel adversaries or from strangers would have no effect somehow.

Sadly, not all individuals have sensed the love of God for them. They don’t have intimate relationship with Christ so that they ignore his decree about punishment for sin. It declared about Christ in Colossians 1:15-16, 15The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.

It is by faith that we trust Jesus Christ as Savior. The Lord took all our sins and crucified with Jesus and saved us from the penalty of sin. With empowerment of his Holy Spirit in us, we now behave righteously. We trust Christ as our Lord, and he provides for our needs for godly life. When he returns, he will take us into heaven, and we meet God the Father face to face. God won’t hide his face from us forever.

Lord Jesus, increase my trust in you.
