Celebration

Psalm 7:16

16 The trouble they cause recoils on   them; their violence comes down   on their own heads.

Celebration of New Year’s Eve with too much drinking, wild dancing and loud singing was annual disturbance somewhere in the pacific region. A group of individuals got drunk; they ate the traditional sticky rice delicacies. Few minutes before midnight, they lighted firecrackers and shouted all the more loudly in their amusement. One of them tried to show off and lighted a huge firecracker but it stuck on his fingers because of the sticky rice delicacies he had eaten; he tried to shake the firecracker off his hand but it exploded suddenly. The following morning, he woke up in the hospital with bandage in his arm and face. One of his arms was gone.

Accidents caused by firecrackers while eating sticky rice and drinking wine or liquor had been tragic stories that summarize celebration of New Year in many places in the pacific region. Authorities had been warning against the danger of firecrackers but the proud heart who wants to show off would just ignore warnings. It declares in Proverbs 16:5, 5The Lord detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.

Celebration of New Year’s Eve with firecrackers is amusing to anyone. Government authorities tried to minimize accidents cause by firecrackers but numerous drunkards abound; they feel invincible whenever they got drunk. How could Christians celebrate New Year’s Eve as testimony of the transformational work Christ in our life?

Since we cannot prevent individuals from their excitement of lighting firecrackers, we may participate in their celebration but we have to be alert of possible accidents. We could extend assistance to those in need of help. It declares in Hebrews 6:10, 10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.

Lord Jesus, please inspire me to help others.
