Psalm 10:12
12 Arise, Lord! Lift up your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless.
There will always be helpless and needy people in the world. One question that skeptical people may argue to make their point seems valid in their eyes is: “If God is love, why does he allow poverty?” Even self-confessed Christians cannot understand readily. They cannot completely agree with international missionaries going abroad. They argue, “Why do you go abroad just to share the gospel when there are needy and helpless people in your localities? Truly, those questions ignite immediate answers, but skeptics are not ready yet to accept biblical explanations.
Anyway, Christ declared in Mark 14:7-9, 7The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me. 8She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial. 9Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.
The disciples thought that selling the expensive perfume and give the revenue to the poor was better option; they may have been really concerned about the helpless. Yet, when the woman poured the expensive perfume on Christ, he appreciated it. And truly, even future generations could learn from what the woman did because Christ declared it. We don’t forget but pray and do whatever we can to help the helpless. But what can we do that Christ may appreciate? Wherever the Lord leads us, we follow. We should not be affected or influenced by what skeptics may think or argue. Since the Lord did not send us to argue with skeptics, we should also pray to be empowered by the Holy Spirit for us to know the perfect timing when to share the gospel to potential believers that the Lord prepared to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Lord Jesus, empower me with you Holy Spirit.
