Psalm 18:1

1I love you, Lord, my strength.

King David could have so much confidence because he was an accomplished warrior, and he accumulated so much wealth. But he personally recognized his frailty and weaknesses, and he sought God’s help time and time again. And God gave him timely strength when David needed it most. He was very smart to realize that it was God who enabled him to achieve anything he owned. He declared in Psalm 119:72, 72The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold.

The Lord knows our future. He loved us. He designed the most wonderful path for us to have adventurous journey in this life as preparation for our eternal dwelling. Yet most often, we just ignore God because we cannot perceive that his warning was meant for our benefits. It declares in 1 Corinthians 2:14, 14The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

A fictional story was told about several students who were swimming in the river. Their teacher was alarmed when she heard a radio report that the river upstream was rising and may cause flooding. The teacher instructed the students to immediately get out of the river. The students responded, “Thank you for your warning, teacher. You are very kind. You are worthy of praise!” The students praised their teacher for her kind warning, but they continued swimming. The flood came, and the students were drowned.

Obedience to God is pleasant worship to him. It warned in Hebrews 3:18-19, 18And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? 19So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.

Lord Jesus, strengthen my faith to obey you.
