Psalm 11:2

 ²For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart.

Before guns were invented, arrows had been a sniper’s weapon. Snipers use arrows to kill victims from a distance. Wicked snipers hide and secretly kill the upright. David was upright, and the wicked King Saul wanted him to die. At one New Moon Feast, King Saul asked his son Jonathan why David did not join the meal with the king. And, Jonathan lied to his father to prove if his father wanted David to die. King Saul responded angrily in 1 Samuel 20:30-33, ³⁰“You son of a perverse and rebellious woman! Don’t I know that you have sided with the son of Jesse to your own shame and to the shame of the mother who bore you? ³¹As long as the son of Jesse lives on this earth, neither you nor your kingdom will be established. Now send someone to bring him to me, for he must die!” ³²“Why should he be put to death? What has he done?” Jonathan asked his father. ³³But Saul hurled his spear at him to kill him. Then Jonathan knew that his father intended to kill David.

Certainly, King Saul must have sent investigators to find where David was. So, he knew that Jonathan just lied to him about David. In his anger, he cannot hide his frustration that as long as David was alive, Jonathan won’t become king.

There will always be people who cannot approve righteous behavior, and worse, they may plan to harm anybody. God wants us to behave uprightly, and he would secure us until his purposes in us are accomplished. And God allows every situation also to happen to accomplish his purposes in and through us.

 Lord Jesus, let your purposes be accomplished in me.
