Psalm 10:18
18The Lord defending the fatherless and the oppressed, so that mere earthly mortals will never again strike terror.
It is very oppressive feeling for children who do not have fathers at a very young age. It is even more terrifying experience when children do not know when to eat. Not just Filipinos, many people have been inspired by the life story of Ex-Senator of the Philippine Manny Pacquiao. When he was young, his father left them for another house. He had to forego his studies to help earn money for their family at a very young age. With blessing from the Lord, he earned millions of dollars while enduring the rigorous training and painful challenge of boxing. He was elected Philippine senator not because he was educated but because Filipinos hoped that he may find a way to alleviate their life. His life story is one of the many rag-to-riches narratives of people who had grown up without father figure.
It warns in Proverbs 23:10-11, 10Do not move an ancient boundary stone or encroach on the fields of the fatherless,11for their Defender is strong; he will take up their case against you.
Regarding the fatherless, God had clear command to never oppress the orphans. If you personally know some fatherless children, it would be helpful if you may help them know that God is defending their cause so that they won’t be terrified of possible oppression from cruel people. Moreover, if we pray for orphans and extend our generosity to them, what will God do? Can you believe that God will pay back any goodness and kindness extended to orphans, just as he defends their cause? Certainly, God supplies generosity that results to praise and thanksgiving to the Lord, most especially to the fatherless and the oppressed.
Lord Jesus, bless me to be generous to orphans!
