   Psalm 17:1

1 Hear me, Lord, my plea is just; listen to my cry. Hear my prayer—it does not rise from deceitful lips.

Naturally, it feels sad when loved ones die. But should we plea to God to bring the dead back to life? We can learn from King David. It narrated in 2 Samuel 12:20-23, 20Then David got up from the ground. After he had washed, put on lotions and changed his clothes, he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped. Then he went to his own house, and at his request they served him food, and he ate. 21His attendants asked him, “Why are you acting this way? While the child was alive, you fasted and wept, but now that the child is dead, you get up and eat!” 22He answered, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept. I thought, ‘Who knows? The Lord may be gracious to me and let the child live.’ 23But now that he is dead, why should I go on fasting? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.”

King David always trusted that whatever the Lord does is best for him. As a loving father, King David pleaded to the Lord to restore the health of his sick child. But the Lord’s decided not to grant his plea. When he ate after his child died, King David testified to observers that he preferred to be responsible king of Israel and not let himself be unproductive.

When we pray for difficult situations and God won’t grant our plea, we should pray for wisdom and understanding that the Lord has better plan for us. The Lord can see the past, present and future simultaneously. He knows the best situation for us. Prayer items that God won’t grant may not be included in his grand design for our betterment. But we need inspiration of the Holy Spirit to accept such mysterious reality and know which practical path we should take to move on. Christ declared in John 10:10, 10I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. We explore the fullness of life as we trust that the Lord designed favorable situation for us

Lord Jesus help me pray for what you prepared for me.
